Mulch Film

Abstract

In modern-day agriculture mulch films accelerate the growth of plants, prevent moisture loss, modify soil temperature, prevent weeds and increase crop yields as well as precocity. Plastic mulches improved crop quality by keep ripening fruits off of the soil. This reduced contact with the soil decreases fruit rot as well as keeps the fruit and vegetables clean. This is beneficial for the production of strawberries, for example.
Mulch films serve a number of different purposes. Transparent mulch film is used to encourage early season plant growth and early cropping, black mulch films are used to control weed growth, and white films provide reflected sunlight for the plants. In all cases, the implementation of mulch films leads to a more effective use of available water. Most mulch films are only 10 to 50 microns in thickness and are used in widths up to 1200 mm.
